#56 Living to work or working to live? with Author Dr. Susan Landers
Wednesday Jul 19, 2023
Wednesday Jul 19, 2023
When you were little did anyone ever ask you, “What kind of friend will you be when you grow up?” or “How will you create joy when you grow up?” or “How will you be healthy when you grow up?”
I didn’t think so.
But I bet you can remember being asked, “What do you want to “be” when you grow up?”
This is the moment it started. When you knew that your job would be the most important part of who you are. It was the point when you were told your work would be the most important thing.
And there was a clear path. Get good grades, go to college, and get a “good” job. Work hard, get promoted, and do NOT screw up this part of your life.
Because this is who you are.
If you screw it up, everything comes crashing down. Because everything in your life depends on work.
People decide what kind of person you are based on what you do. So it determines relationships and the opportunities you have.
And then there’s the obvious. It puts a roof over your head, food in your belly, and clothes on your back.
Making sure you do it RIGHT and do it well matters. So you work your butt off, proving yourself day in and day out. Making sure you never make a mistake. Making sure there is never a reason to let you go.
And before you know it, the job has become all of who you are. No other aspect of you matters. The part of you who is a good friend or partner takes a back burner. The part who likes to dance and see live music gets put in the closet. The part of you who is healthy and takes care of your body is abandoned on the side of the road.
You spend late nights and weekends working.
And little by little your friends stop calling. Anytime you have off is spent “recovering” from the long work week. More Netflix binges with a pint of ice cream in hand. And even if you have a partner, life starts to feel more and more lonely.
If this sounds like you, you’re not alone. The most common regret people have as they get older is that their life revolved around work instead of the things they love.
But when most people try to pull back and create more “balance,” it sends them into sheer panic. What good is it to spend more doing things you love when the whole time you are stressing about work?
This is why I love doing my podcast. I get to share stories of people who’ve overcome that panic. So that you know that it can be done!
This week I speak with Author and Neonatologist, Dr. Susan Landers. She is a determined, high-achieving, trailblazer who let work become her whole life. An episode in her early 40s gave her the opportunity to step back and figure out a new way of relating to work and the other roles in her life.

#55 Are you a warrior or a creator? with Author and Podcast Host Kim Lengling
Wednesday Jul 12, 2023
Wednesday Jul 12, 2023
There are two ways people succeed in their careers. They either fight for everything they have or they create everything they have.
Both people can end up in a so-called successful career. But in most cases, one is happy and fulfilled, and one is often miserable.
The warrior is always looking for what is wrong. They can tell you very clearly what they don’t want. They are 14 steps ahead, looking to prevent and counteract any potential problem.
These are the people who will drop anything and everything to save the day at work. They will give up their weekends and work late hours.
The warrior will know who to avoid in the office, how to fly under the radar, and what sets the boss off.
They do their best to make sure NOBODY knows when their struggling. But sometimes their anger will get the best of them.
They will work harder than anyone else. And will usually get the least amount of appreciation and acknowledgment.
And when they get everything they “thought” they wanted, they will be disappointed and think, “Is this all there is?”
The warrior never knows when to put down the sword. And their job will often take over their whole life.
On the other hand, the creator is clear on what is important to them. And if their job is not providing that, they ask for it - without fear of backlash.
The creator leaves work at work and enjoys their personal life. They are the ones whose ideas are acknowledged and implemented. They are the ones who are appreciated and who people want to be around.
I love taking people from warriors to creators. Because who they become in the end is a powerful creator who has the ability to pick up the sword (if needed). But they don’t live and die by the sword. They get the best of both worlds and they experience the greatest amount of joy in their work and regular lives.
This week’s podcast guest, Kim Lengling, lost her good-paying job with the pandemic hit, and instead of scrambling for something else, she asked herself 3 questions. Which has allowed her to go from a sales and marketing road warrior to a trail-blazing creator.

#54 Are You Hungry with Author Bracha Goetz
Wednesday Jul 05, 2023
Wednesday Jul 05, 2023
Have you ever had that feeling where you eat and 30 minutes later you’re hungry again?
It makes no sense. You KNOW logically you shouldn’t be hungry, but here you are starving. And on top of that, you have no idea what you’re craving. You don’t know what you’re hungry for. So you eat the comfort foods, you eat the ice cream. Because those things usually do the trick and satisfy you.
And an hour later you’re hungry again! So you think you’re starved for nutrients so you try something healthy. But you’re still not satiated.
Here’s the thing, this kind of hunger doesn’t just apply to food. It’s a pattern that’ll show up in many aspects of your life, including your work!
So how does this hunger apply to work?
It starts when you think there is not enough time to get everything done. And I know you’re thinking, “Um, Genea, that’s every day of my life.”
Just hear me out.
You start working longer hours because you need to get everything done. You start getting less and less sleep. Because you’re getting home later, and when you lie in bed your brain is spinning about what you have to do.
You can barely get moving in the morning, but you get up and get your butt to work. You must get it all done!
You use all the things to get you through the day. More caffeine, more food, more sugar. You must override how tired you are because you must do more. You must get more done.
In the back of your head, you’re thinking, “Once I get everything on this list done, then I can relax.”
So you keep going, and you push harder.
But as soon as you get it all done, you see 10 more things that need to be done.
There is no rest for you.
But what you don’t realize is that this pattern is a sign you have an insatiable hunger. You are hungry for doing more. And no matter how much you do it will never be enough.
I know you think there will be some magical endpoint, but there’s not. And if there were, you would have already found it because you’re smart and hardworking.
The key to stopping the hunger is to make yourself realize you’re already full.
So how do you do that?
I’m glad you asked. This hunger is exactly what Bratcha Goetz and I are going to talk about on this week’s podcast. And we’ll give you some tips for stopping the hunger in all areas of your life. Because you deserve to feel like you can put the work down. You deserve to feel full and satiated, so you can feel happy in all areas of your life.

#53 Is Money the Key to Your Happiness with Podcast Host Kevin Palmieri
Wednesday Jun 28, 2023
Wednesday Jun 28, 2023
The sad fact is you need money to survive in today’s world. It takes money to put a roof over your head and food on the table. It takes money to transport you to the place where you will make the money.
So you got a job, and you work hard to get that money.
And once your needs are met, you can breathe. Or can you?
You see for most people, once their basic needs are met, it’s not enough. They’re still not happy.
So they decide they want a nicer house, a nicer car, and better clothes. They think once they have those things they can even get a better relationship. And then they think, once they have ALL of that, “Then, I’ll be happy!”
But how do you get all of that?
More money of course!!
Work harder, get promoted, chase the title that will give you more money!!
And because people want happiness, money becomes the number one priority in people’s lives. Even when they think they’re not money driven. How do I know this?
- People will suffer in jobs they don’t like for years. Why? For the money.
- Most people will only look for new jobs when they lose the one they have. Why? Because they are afraid of not having money.
- Great relationships and friendships fail because of money issues
We’ve all been groomed to believe that more money will buy us happiness. And the truth is, having more money can help to ease our pain. But it won’t buy you happiness.
What logic are we using when we trade 40-60 hours of misery for enough money to ease the pain of that job? Just so you can go back and suffer for another 40-60 hours next week.
More work for more money equals more pain, and you end up needing more things, therapy, self-care, more going out, more retail therapy, more chocolate … so you can deal with work to make more money which equals more pain so you need more …
Wouldn’t it be easier to just end the “suffering at work” part of it all?
My guest on this week’s podcast was on autopilot chasing the money. He was struggling with depression and contemplating ending it all when he heard someone say, “Isn’t it weird that we wake up every day and go to a job we don’t like?” This sparked an aha moment that led him on a path of self-improvement and actually finding happiness.

#52 Relationships Matter with Michelle Hoffmann Relationship Coach
Tuesday Jun 20, 2023
Tuesday Jun 20, 2023
You have to go to work. I get that.
And because most people can’t “survive” without a job, it will take priority over everything else.
And it often doesn’t matter whether the job is good or bad, as long as it pays the bills.
So a pattern starts. Go to work, put your head down, and pretend you like the people you work with. Get in and out, and hope you have some energy for the rest of your life.
But most people don’t have the energy for the rest of their life. At least not anymore.
The older you get, the harder it is to make the time for the things you love. The harder it is to nurture your personal relationships. There just isn’t enough time. There isn’t enough energy.
After a hard week of dealing with micromanaging bosses and needy coworkers, the last thing you want to do is deal with people.
So you order some takeout, open a bottle of wine, and settle into a Netflix binge.
And over time, you notice that you want to connect with people less and less. It just seems easier to do your own thing. Less pain. Less worry.
But relationships are one of the fundamental foundations for happiness, inside and outside of work.
And letting work take precedence over relationships is one of the top regrets people have at the end of their life.
And on top of that, having terrible relationships at work is one of the top reasons people hate their jobs.
My point is that relationships matter. Your happiness matters!
This week Michelle Hoffmann and I will talk about work and personal relationships. And why they are important. After Michelle lost the most important relationship in her life she leaned into a whole new career doing something she’d been doing all her life.

#51 Why You Always Have to Go-Go-go with Executive Consultant Brooke Dukes
Wednesday Jun 14, 2023
Wednesday Jun 14, 2023
I’ve heard all the reasons why women are driven to succeed. And one I hear over and over again is, “I don’t want to feel trapped like my mother was. Stuck in a terrible marriage with no way to leave or support herself.”
And so these women work their butts off to get degrees and climb the corporate ladder.
And they go go go. And go go go. And go go go. Never once slowing down to check in and see if they’re actually happy. Just one foot in front of the other. Keep going!
Most of these women have no idea they’re riding the edge of burnout.
Sure they know they are stressed and overloaded with work. Yes, they know their boss is an egomaniac and their coworkers are cold and unsupportive.
But it’s always been that way. They don’t know anything different.
They will put the safety and security of having a job ahead of EVERYTHING else. And they don’t even realize they’re doing it. Until they lose (or almost lose) what’s most important to them.
I’ve saved many of my clients from the fate of loss. And I’ve helped them pick up the pieces after they lost it all. I don’t want that for you.
That’s why I share other people’s stories on my podcast. So you can learn from their experience and avoid making the same mistakes.
This week’s guest is Brooke Dukes. She is a powerful woman who had all the measures of success - a nice home, husband, family, great salary, and promising career. But she had no idea she was riding that edge of burnout. And it wasn’t until she was given an ultimatum that would change her life, that she’d realize how much her over-the-top drive was costing her.

When it’s a matter of survival, people are very good at making things happen.
You lose your job and are out of money … you hustle and make something happen. When you desperately need an income you’ll take anything to pay the bills.
And once you make enough money to ensure your bills are paid, you stop the hustle. You are safe and that’s all that matters. There is no need to keep looking.
But so often you end up in horrible situations. And little by little the misery sinks in.
But you won’t do anything to change your situation.
I call this place purgatory. It’s miserable, but it’s not as bad as hell (not having an income).
So many people get VERY comfortable in purgatory. This is the place they know best. They’re used to suffering.
Yes, they’d like their career situation to be better.
They’ll complain, feel sorry for themselves, rage at the system, and blame their boss. But they won’t do anything about it.
They’ll skate by … until the flames of hell start to burn their feet.
And they’ll repeat the cycle. Unless they’re willing to get uncomfortable and do something different.
As a Career Empowerment coach, getting people out of purgatory is one of my specialties. And a great way to learn is to hear how other people did it. That’s why I share people’s stories on my podcast.
After an impressive life of resilience, discipline, and triumph, James Roberts (performance and success coach) spent 2 years in the purgatory of “just skating by.” He had the opportunity to do this for the rest of his life. But he chose to do something different. Join us for a conversation on what it took for him to escape and create a life he is truly proud of.

#49 Could You Be Living Your Purpose and Not Know it? with Coach Greg LeFever
Wednesday May 31, 2023
Wednesday May 31, 2023
So many people tell me they have no idea what their purpose is. But even when you don’t know your purpose, you are still living it.
Lots of people are working in jobs because it’s what someone else thought they should do. And as a result, they don’t feel happy or fulfilled.
They don’t want to be doing what they’re doing. And even though they know what they LOVE to do, they don’t think they could make a career out of it. And that’s because people have been telling them for years not to take the risk.
The thing is, you’re always going to be living your purpose – with or without it being your job. But when you can fulfill your purpose through your career, you’ll be WAY happier!
I know it worked out that way for me. And it worked out that way for Coach Greg LeFever. He always knew he wanted to create a career around fitness. But he let the naysayers deter him. And when life offered him the opportunity to change everything, he took a leap to follow his dream.
Join us on this week’s podcast episode to learn how his purpose was threaded throughout his life even before he took the leap. And maybe you’ll see what your purpose is!

#48 What Does it Mean About You with Husband, Father, Business Owner Allan Miles
Wednesday May 24, 2023
Wednesday May 24, 2023
Ever make a mistake at work and beat yourself up – for days?
How about when your boss called you in to yell at you? What did the voice in your head have to say about that?
Essentially these things are tiny moments in the grand scheme of life. And in theory, they shouldn’t mean much of anything.
But more often than not, they hijack our thoughts, time, and energy.
We humans, have a need to understand why things happen. We have to EVERYTHING mean something.
And when things go wrong, most people will make it mean that there’s something wrong with them.
People tell themselves things like:
- It happened because I’m an idiot because I can’t figure out the new software system.
- It went wrong because I’ll never do anything right
- They’ll never forgive me for my screw up
- Nobody will ever talk to me again.
The problem is that once that inner voice starts beating you up, it knocks the wind out of your sails. It makes it VERY hard to go after what you want in life.
You’ll lose your motivation and procrastinate. You’ll second guess yourself and take too long to make decisions. You’ll wonder if you’re even capable of getting what you want and stop trying.
And the more that inner voice lays into you, the more often you’ll accidentally prove it right.
This bullying inner voice has sabotaged many lives, and quieting it down is key to happiness, success, and fulfillment. Join me and Allan Miles as we discuss the devastating effects this inner voice can have on one’s life and career.

#47 Are You Willing to Go ALL in? with Noah Healy Computational Mathematician
Wednesday May 17, 2023
Wednesday May 17, 2023
Why is it that some people create a career that they're passionate about, and others stay in jobs they hate?
The reality is that people will create a life based on what is important to them. The problem is, most people are completely unaware of what’s actually most important to them.
When I ask people what’s important to them in the context of their career they say things like passion, connection, support, and abundance.
But they are in horrible jobs where they get paid crap, there is no support and they hate what they’re doing.
So where’s the disconnect? What’s so important that they’re willing to give up EVERYTHING they say is important to them?
It’s safety and security. But it’s more than the paycheck. It’s also the safety of not having to risk what people might think about you if it doesn’t work.
The combination of potential rejection and potential financial failure is the ultimate dream killer.
“If it doesn’t work what’ll people think, how will I pay the bills? How will I face them when they told me it was stupid?”
The fact is, it’s easy to do what you hate. There’s nothing personal on the line. If you lose your job, you scramble and get another job you hate to pay the bills. Safety and security. NO personal risk.
But what if there was something so important that you’d do whatever it took to make it happen? What if you had the confidence in your gifts to set the safety nets aside and really go for it?
That’s what this week’s podcast guest Noah Healy is doing. He automated himself out of a job, followed his passion, and discovered a whole new economic system that could change the world. He says there is nothing more economically viable than working on this project.

My guest on this week’s podcast had a history of shoving her pain under the rug. It started when she was twelve. But over the years it got worse and worse.
She became a shell of herself, and had the mindset of, “Just let me get through another day.”
I know a lot of you out there feel that way about your job.
It’s the absolute worst on Monday, once you’ve had a weekend of freedom.
But Tuesday you think, “Okay fine, we have to be here, let’s just make it to Friday.” So you put on a good face and try to do your best.
On Wednesday, you sit in meeting after meeting listening to people with half your talent get all the glory.
You’ve known exactly what you were going to say in this meeting since yesterday. (You didn’t want to be caught off guard.) But every time you try to speak, someone talks over you. Nobody is paying attention.
You’re fuming, but you hold it in.
By Thursday your stomach hurts so bad in the morning you think about calling in. But you know that will only put more work on your desk so you suck it up and go in anyway.
Put on that smile. Pretend everything is just fine. But you feel like a zombie.
And by Friday you’re struggling to keep a panic attack at bay. Just one more day. Let me make it through one more day.
The thing is, at some point, everything you’ve been stuffing is going to come out. One way or another. And it will never pick the right time.
So the question becomes, will you wait until you can’t hold it in anymore? Until it explodes before you do something about this cycle?
Or maybe you’re worried that you can’t do anything to fix it? Because everything you’ve tried hasn’t worked.
I want you to know that you can!!
This is why I love talking to people like Valerie Maksym. It wasn’t easy for her. She spent a lifetime stuffing and internalizing the pain of trauma and tragedy. But through perseverance and showing up for herself, she took back her life. She is now a competitive bodybuilder, author, and high-performance life coach. She found her true self and allows her inner superhero to shine bright for the world to see.
If Valerie can do it, so can you!

#45 Ten Years of Therapy and Still Not Happy? with Personal Growth Coach Amanda Kirkland
Wednesday May 03, 2023
Wednesday May 03, 2023
For most people, things get really bad before they’ll seek help.
They’ll try everything they know to make things better. And when all of that fails, they’ll beat themselves up thinking there’s something wrong with them.
And eventually, they decide they can’t take that feeling anymore - the feeling that something’s wrong with them. So they break down and start therapy.
It always begins with the hope that “If I just fix what’s wrong with me, it’ll solve my problems.” But it doesn’t.
Yes, 5-10 and even 20 years later you have a better understanding of why you do the things you do. But the patterns are still there.
Relationships are still failing. And you’re STILL struggling to get ahead in your career.
This is because therapy is not designed to solve these problems. It’s about understanding the self.
And for most people, discovering the pattern and understanding why you have the pattern is not enough to change the pattern.
Especially if your pattern is being surrounded by toxic people and work situations.
As a Career Empowerment Coach, I love helping people permanently change the patterns of toxic people and workplaces and so does Amanda Kirkland. Join us for a conversation about how she rose above toxic relationships and in the process discovered the perfect career for her.

Amanda bio:
A self-professed practitioner of self-care!
A B.A.B.E - Balanced, Authentic, Babe Extraordinaire.
Narcissists and toxic relationships used to surround me like a magnetic field.
I estranged myself from my parents and one sister almost 10 years ago.
Today my life is like 31 flavors of Baskin Robbins ice cream.
The younger version of me was obsessed with reading books and watching movies about the guilty – I wanted to be a Criminal Prosecutor/Crown Attorney (depending on what country you are living in).
Turns out, I didn’t have the grades or the stomach for it ... so I got into Real Estate Development… for a while.
Now, I’m a Personal Growth Coach, yoga-junkie, shopping-fiend to rival Julia Roberts, obsessive dog lover, and a secret Demo/Reno expert.
I came to the conclusion that my lived experience, both personal and professional, could help other women (and a few men) struggling with dysfunctional relationships.
If you've never tried Coaching before... it changes everything. In a matter of months. In my own journey, I experienced more personal, physical, and mental shifts than in over twenty years of traditional talk therapy. I now help others learn to live (and love) their lives without "the problem" they’ve been experiencing for years (because that luggage is far too heavy!).
If you've got the weight of the world on your shoulders - let me help lighten the load – let me help unpack some of that baggage (or those problems) and lighten your load.
I bet right now you’re wondering great, but what qualifies this chick (gal, lady, woman, person) to be a coach and help me unpack?
I have a Bachelor of Art in Social Sciences from the University of Western Ontario ’89.
I am a Certified Avalon Empowerment Trauma Aware Transformational Coach and Master Practitioner in Evolved NLP, Quantum Time Release, Quantum Change Process and Hypnotherapy. I have completed a course in Social Impact Awareness.

#44 Reimagining Success with Professional Vagabond on Permanent Vacation Dora Fang
Wednesday Apr 26, 2023
Wednesday Apr 26, 2023
Way too many people (especially women) are addicted to being busy.
The thing is, this is how most of us were brought up. Do more, work harder, be more. Keep going no matter what. If you’re busy “doing,” you’ll be fine. Go to the gym, do side projects, and meet friends for happy hour. Keep stepping up, achieving, and doing ALL the things (plus more). And whatever you do … DON’T STOP!
Remember that time you booked a “relaxing” vacation? The kind of vacation where you had nothing to do but lounge on the beach and relax. But 2 days in, the edgy uneasiness crept in. And by day 3 you were climbing the walls. Thank god for the piña coladas or you never would’ve survived!
You learned your lesson. From that point on, even your vacations were jam-packed with things to do.
Then, in 2020 the pandemic hit, and everything shut down. If you were lucky, you still had work.
But everything else you used to do with your time was off the table. And you were forced to sit in the edgy uneasiness that comes with having nothing to do.
Nobody knew what would come next. The rules and roadmap to what you’re “supposed to do” were gone.
And each person had a choice. You could wallow in the uneasiness, drink more, slide into depression, and let the anxiety overtake you. Or you could “let go” of the old way, reimagine a new better-for-you way, and take the steps to make it a reality.
With or without a pandemic, this is how you create empowering, perfect-for-you careers and lives.
And as a Career Empowerment Coach, it’s why I love talking to people like Dora Fang. She created a whole new way of life for herself, living outside the boundaries of what we’re “supposed to do.” She went from building strategic partnerships, creating new markets, and catalyzing growth at big companies to traveling full-time in a Winnebago Navion motorhome with her black lab, Tessa.

Dora Fang has 20+ years of experience in building strategic partnerships, creating new markets, and catalyzing growth at companies such as eBay and Harley-Davidson. She started an outdoor adventure business in her 20s, before going to graduate school. She loves figuring out new businesses, industries, and ecosystems (she’s worked in 6 so far, including medical devices, automotive, renewable energy, and e-commerce). Starting in 2020, she downshifted, fatFIRE'd, and is focused on enjoying adventure/nature and experiencing/learning new things. Dora’s focus on helping women achieve self-sufficiency and self-confidence began freshman year in college while volunteering at the local battered women’s shelter. Recently in San Francisco, she’s helped with shelter operations and events for the Asian Women’s Shelter, along with grocery delivery for the local food bank. She was also on the Asian Women’s Shelter 25th Anniversary Steering Committee and a shelter volunteer/advocate. While living in Park City, Utah, she served on the Board of Peace House and as liaison to the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition. She also volunteered as a Victim Advocate for the Park City Police and Summit County Sheriff. She is often active with alumni groups, having served as Co-President of the Dartmouth Club of Utah, long-time member of Duke University’s Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee, and Young Alumnae President for Chi Omega in Washington DC. She is also a leader within Burning Man crews in California and Utah, having served as a board member of Airpusher Collective and its inimitable airship and treasurer/petrol lead for Cosmiquarium Village. Dora earned her undergraduate degree at Duke University in Public Policy and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. She is a California-certified Domestic Violence Counselor and fluent in Mandarin Chinese. In 2021, Dora moved out of San Francisco, CA into a Winnebago Navion motorhome to travel full-time with her sweet rescue pup, a 9(ish) year old black lab mix named Tessa. |

Have you ever had one of those moments that stop you in your tracks? Where you knew you were on the precipice of something totally new–something better?
You have this sense that you are supposed to be and have something bigger in your life than you do now. And you’re on the verge of knowing that it’s totally possible.
And in the months after this moment, the “knowing” became stronger until…
Even without evidence, you knew deep in your bones that it’s possible to have a job that allows you to have an abundant prosperous life. One where you get to do something meaningful that you care about. You KNOW you can be fulfilled, acknowledged, AND appreciated for your good work. And most of all you KNOW that it’s possible to find joy in your career (and life).
So you take stock of your whole life and one thing is for certain…your current work situation does NOT align with what you now KNOW is possible.
The problem with this “knowing” is that it makes staying where you are…unbearable.
And the alternative…stepping into the unknown … is SCARY!
So what do you do when you’re stuck between the pain of the hell you know and the fear of the unknown?
You have to DECIDE that you are going to go after what you know is possible. And commit to dealing with anything that gets in your way.
And once you have that clarity–once you step in and say YES…
You get to trust that the right people will show up to help you and the road will open up.
As a career empowerment coach, I love sharing the stories of people who have made that decision and made those possibilities their reality.
Join me for part 2 of my conversation with Metaphysical Novelist and Manifestation Expert Shaun Randall. We are going to dig into how he made that decision and what he did to make his dreams a reality!

Shaun’s Bio:
Shaun Randall, is the author of Words Like Wine, A Peace of My Mind, and Letters From Lima. His metaphysical poetry and novels take readers on a journey inside worlds they never knew existed to uncover truth and discover themselves all over again. His latest book The Manifestation Method teaches readers how to unlock the power of quantum energy to create a life of abundance, fulfillment, and joy.
Originally from San Diego, California, Randall also spent time as an adolescent in Portland, Oregon; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and South Florida. Living on the coasts and in the mountains, instilled a wonder and love for our natural world. In 2008, Shaun moved to Chicago, Illinois, where the urban setting heavily influenced his life and work.
In March 2020, Randall took a vacation to Lima, Perú, with no idea what was in store for him on that fateful trip. He met the love of his life, Eliet, and was inspired by witnessing the ancient world coincide with the modern world set in the wondrous natural beauty of Perú. What started as a quick getaway to relax and clear his head became an adventure filled with years of intense self-discovery and inspirational writing.
Randall, through his writing and manifestation teaching, guides people to connect with their true authentic self in order to find inner peace and contentment amidst the chaos of modern life. Ancient Latin American wisdom and Eastern philosophies permeate Randall’s work while he employs a dry sense of humor and Zen-like deadpan in his writing. His unique style encourages readers to look inward in order to make decisions for themselves, rather than be swayed by the external material world. He strives to help people find joy in their own paths and embrace the miracle that is reality.

Things rarely get bad all at once. Most of the time it’s a slow burn. And for most, it will be months and even years before you notice that your foundation has turned to ash and everything is about to crumble. This happens because you’re always making micro-adjustments to try to balance out everything that’s coming at you in your career (and life).
2 years ago you started going to happy hour 3 (sometimes 4) days a week instead of one. Because your tyrannical boss won’t stop laying into you and your team.
1 year ago you stopped hanging out with your “happy” friends. Because it’s just hard to listen to them talk about how great their careers are going.
6 months ago, you reluctantly paid your gym membership–even though you hadn’t been in as long as you can remember.
2 months ago you upped your coffee intake-AGAIN! Because the work deadlines are relentless.
You avoid looking in the mirror because the dark circles under your eyes remind you of how you can’t sleep.
And before you even realize it, you’ve found yourself in the deepest pits of despair. And you’re left asking yourself how did I get here?
I hate to say it, but there is no quick fix. You can’t wave a magic wand and instantly make things better. And hoping for a miracle won’t cut it.
You have to start with what you can control. And take it one step at a time.
You can’t control your micromanaging boss. You can’t control the coworkers that talk behind your back. You can NOT control anything outside of you
But you control yourself. It’s not always easy. And you may need some help, but you can do it!
So if you want things to get better, it has to start with you doing something for YOU!
As a career empowerment coach, I know those first actions steps to creating a career (and life) that you fall in love with can be the hardest. But I need you to know that it can be done.
This is why I love having people like Shaun Randall share their stories of how they took control of their lives. This is part one of a two-part series. We’ll dig into Shaun’s journey from career meltdown and depression to creating the career and life of his dreams.

Ever feel like there’s nothing “obviously” wrong with your job, but by the end of the work-week you end up exhausted and feeling bad about yourself?
You worked hard and gave it your all. You followed the rules and did everything you were “supposed” to.
But you still felt like it was not enough.
When it comes to career (and life) there are a lot of people standing on their soapboxes preaching what you “should” and “should not” do.
Your friends say you should stand up for yourself and tell people to back off.
Your boss tells you that you shouldn’t take what your coworker says personally.
And HR has come up with a list of things you should not say. And if you say them there will be consequences.
There’s a big problem with all these “shoulds.” They come with the hidden implication that you’re “bad” if you don’t do what others say you “should” do.
It’s like when a dog gets into the trash. And then you drag it over to the mess, stick its nose in it, and tell it that it’s bad. After enough of this “teaching,” the dog stops getting into the trash to avoid getting in trouble.
But this is not teaching. What’s really happening is that the dog becomes scared. It doesn’t like it when you tell it that it’s bad. And it learns that it must obey in order for you to accept, love, and feed it.
We train dogs this way because they don’t have to cognitive understanding that humans do. They don’t have the capacity to “understand” why they “shouldn’t” get into the trash. So instead of teaching, we bully and shame them into submission.
The problem is, many people, bosses, coworkers, and even leaders will treat you like a dog. They tell you what you “should” do and make you feel bad if you don’t do it.
It’s so common that EVERYONE does it sometimes. And most people have NO IDEA they’re doing it.
Getting “should” all over often leaves people feeling bad about themselves. And when you don’t feel good about yourself, it’s hard to do your best work. It’s hard to thrive in your job and career. It’s hard to thrive in life.
As a career empowerment coach, I know how important it is to empower people to be their best selves without “shoulding” them into it.
And this is why I am so excited to talk with speaker-author-leader Lisa Hutcherson on my podcast. People know her as the “Velvet Brick”, due to her soft yet effective way of teaching people how to be a better version of themselves. When people do better because they WANT to, the effect ripples, and lasting change becomes possible.

#40 Standing Up For What You Believe In with Singer/Songwriter Austin Lucas
Wednesday Mar 29, 2023
Wednesday Mar 29, 2023
Have you ever been at work (or in any situation) where you witnessed something you KNEW was wrong?
You watch the incident unfold in slow motion. One person puffs up and then unleashes on another for no good reason. It’s particularly hard to watch when you know it’s an abuse of power or fueled by discrimination or hate.
And there you are witness to the whole thing. Everything in you wants to stop it. Jump in stop the bully, and protect the one being harmed.
You feel the heat and anger rise in your body. And right when it’s at the peak and you’re about to step in, you freeze.
You can’t move. And the worst part is nobody else seems bothered.
You open your mouth to say something, but nothing comes out.
So you stand there, helpless. Until the incident is over.
And finally, you can take a breath.
But then comes the shame and guilt. You go over in your head a million ways in which you failed. You remind yourself of how horrible you are. How you are part of the problem because you couldn’t do what you know is RIGHT. You beat yourself up for working in a place where people do this.
The thing is, it’s SCARY to stand up to bullies–especially when you’re by yourself. And if you’ve ever been picked on, it’s even harder. Because it retraumatizes you.
You’re left feeling like you have to choose between being a good person or making a living and surviving. And let’s face it, that’s the WORST CHOICE.
We are lucky to be living in a time where more and more people are standing up against what is wrong. These people step through their fears and show us it is possible that we can survive (and even thrive) when we stand up for what we believe in. And people ARE creating more environments where this is safe.
And that is why I am so excited to talk with Country Singer/Songwriter, and Community Organizer, Austin Lucas on my podcast. He’s showing us that you can do what you love and stand up for what you believe in. Even if you work in an industry that doesn’t typically green-light your beliefs.

#39 Conform or Walk Away with Integrative Dentist Dr Isabel Pérez
Wednesday Mar 22, 2023
Wednesday Mar 22, 2023
I’ve heard this story a million times. And it always starts with hope…
You were one of the few who knew what they wanted to do. You went to school, you got your degree, and then you got a job.
At first, it was great. You’d go to work every day and you were making a positive impact on people’s lives. It felt good.
But over time, you started to see that there were deeper problems. You were doing everything you were taught, but it wasn’t enough to solve the problems. It felt like you were putting band-aid on top of band-aid. You knew there had to be a better way.
So you did your research and you started learning more. And sure enough, you discovered a wealth of information that could be used for powerful good.
You were ready, you wanted to start implementing ALL of it right now! You started with a “little bit” because you didn’t want to rock the boat.
But over time, that wasn’t enough. The more you learned, the more you wanted to implement. But you got pushback. And even though you knew in your heart, it was time to leave for greener pastures, you stayed.
Because you were scared to take the leap and put yourself out there. You convinced yourself that they’d change. Even though they never really showed you signs they were willing.
The reality was that you were ignoring your heart’s desire because you were afraid of what you’d lose. Things were comfortable, they were safe.
So you stayed, and you settled for just a” little bit.”
But you can only ride that line for so long before something’ll give. Either the people you work for will draw an ultimatum. They’ll force you to stuff down what you have to offer. Or… you’ll have to follow your heart and walk away.
Join me on this week’s podcast to discover what Integrative Dentist, Dr. Isabel Pérez did when faced with this problem. Did she conform or did she chase her heart’s desire?

#38 You’ll Never Be Enough with Drexwell Seymour
Wednesday Mar 15, 2023
Wednesday Mar 15, 2023
Ever stood in front of the mirror wishing that the person looking back at you was different? You’re tired of feeling like there is something wrong with you.
You raise your fists at the sky and screaming in your head, “Why me?! Haven’t I suffered enough?”
You’ve been made fun of for the way you look, the way you talk, where you came from, and a bunch of other things you couldn’t change.
And deep down you thought, “Once I am successful, everything will be okay. Then people will treat me better. Then I will be happy.”
But no matter how hard you work or how much you “succeed,” that image in the mirror doesn’t change.
You wear the “right” clothes and have perfect hair. You have an enviable car and job title. And you ALWAYS make sure to say the right thing.
But you’re starting to realize, it will never be enough.
You don’t love what you do. It drains you, it’s not fulfilling.
You know deep down something has to change. But you don’t even know where to begin.
How do you find the RIGHT path, when all that you know how to do has led you here?
The truth is, your path is not going to look like everyone else’s. Your RIGHT path will be unique to you.
And it starts with you realizing that who you truly are is as good as anyone else. And then taking the steps to make sure you believe 100% in you!
The fact is, the best opportunities come to you because you believe in yourself and are happy with the person in the mirror. Because nobody will truly think highly of you until you do.
As a career empowerment coach, I need you to know that this is 100% possible. And that’s why I love talking to people like Drexwell Seymour on my podcast, Be the Wolf. For most of his life, he suffered from an inferiority complex. Until one day he had the realization that nobody is greater than he. And now he uses his experiences to inspire and encourage others to “rise up and take their position.” Which is just another way of helping people to “Be the Wolf - be who they were born to be.” 😉

#37 How do You Change Your Dream with Psychedelic Guide Jill Vice
Tuesday Mar 07, 2023
Tuesday Mar 07, 2023
Myself and a lot of my clients and podcast guests grew up feeling different. And for many, this led to a belief that there was something wrong with us. Some chose “a try to be normal” path, and others carved something outside the box.
Were you the one who tried to carve your own path?
You probably went outside the box, because you knew the “normal” path wouldn’t make you happy.
But the pressure to feel normal, be normal, and have a normal career was always there. And no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t escape it.
So you were left asking yourself questions like: How come I don’t want 2.5 kids, a suburban home, and a “stable” career? Why does it feel like nobody understands me? Will I always feel like an outsider? And am I really all alone?
And even though you thought following your dream would make you happy, it didn’t.
Actually, you felt depressed, and if that wasn’t bad enough it was topped with brain-spinning, turbo-charged anxiety.
Sure you were “living the dream” but you didn’t feel connected to it anymore. You still had to “survive” so you kept going, but the joy…that was gone. And without the joy, what was the point?
So you found yourself going through the motions–numb, uninspired, stuck.
You thought about what else you could do…but this is what you’ve always done. You don’t know how to do anything else. And then your mind (and emotions) start ping-ponging from the “I don’t know how” fear to “I can’t do this for 20 more years” dread. Anxiety to depression→depression to anxiety and back to depression.
[Surprise-this happens to people who follow the “normal” path too.]
You may have even found a corporate job, to see if that “normal” path was really the key to happiness.
You’ve tried going out more to “take your mind” off it. But in the morning, the anxiety doubles and you’re stuck with a hangover.
You’re sick of talking to your therapist. Sure, you understand why you do certain things, but you still don’t know “HOW” to break this cycle and feel inspired again.
You DO know it’s time to do something different. The old dream is not working anymore. And everything you’ve tried hasn’t worked.
The good news is, there are a lot of tools that will help you find a new dream. A dream career that will fulfill and inspire you. This is why I love working as a career transition coach. It’s also why I love talking to people like Jill Vice on my podcast.
Jill always felt different and as a result, she struggled with anxiety and depression. She followed her heart and pursued and lived her childhood dream of being an artist. Somewhere along the way she changed, and her dream no longer made her happy. But how does one change their dream? And who would she be without it?
