Can you remember the first thing that really lit you up? Made you so excited that you’d put off EVERYTHING else?
For me it was the movie Superman. When I had an opportunity to see the movie for a second time I jumped at it. I gave up coloring Easter eggs which was one of my FAVORITE things to do.
I wasn’t obsessed with Superman himself, I was fascinated by what he could do. That movie made me believe that it was okay to be different and be who you truly are. Even if others don’t appreciate it. And it made me believe that we could do superhuman things.
Today I have a career which makes me 40 times more excited than the Superman movie ever did. I get to use my unique gifts to help others get rid of their Kryptonite and access their superhuman powers.
To create the perfect-for-you career you have to do two things: discover what you love AND get rid of the Kryptonite.
You know…things like:
- Toxic bosses and workplaces
- People not listening to you
- Doubting yourself when things don’t work the way you want
- Procrastination
- Feeling too tired to follow through
- Feeling awkward at networking events
- Self doubt
- Fear of failure…fear of success
- Feeling triggered when your boss calls you into their office
- Thinking you’re not good enough
- Other people telling you not to do it or that you’re crazy
- Fears about money
- Etcetera…etcetera…etcetera
Let’s face it, this is hard. And most have never seen anyone else do it. It’s scary to do something you’ve never seen done. But Cynde McInnis did! She knew EXACTLY what she loved. And she had to trust herself and her gut to make it a reality.

Cynde bio:
For the past 29 years, I’ve talked with thousands of people about whales. Through the Whalemobile, my education enrichment program focusing on a life-sized inflatable model of a humpback whale (that kids go inside), I can provide an engaging learning experience to introduce a unit about whales or be the expert that comes in to close it and answer student questions. I use whales as the inspiration to get kids to start thinking critically about what they can do to protect our planet. My obsession for whales as a child has grown into a greater sense of responsibility to take action on behalf of the wild world. Now, I strive to cultivate that same awareness, respect and responsibility in the next generation of ocean advocates.

You may have heard it said that to GET something different in your life, you must DO something different.
The thing is, most people followed a standard strategy to get the career they have. And many of those same people are not happy with the outcome.
Go to college, so you can get a job→get a good job with benefits and a 401K, so you have security→ work hard, so they appreciate you and don’t fire you→ retire and THEN do all the other things you’ve wanted to do your whole life.
Most people were taught this is how you have a good life. And at one time that may have been an effective strategy.
But this strategy is outdated and does not work in today’s job climate.
First off, going to college will not guarantee you a “good” job. In fact, 39.5% of people who graduate college end up in jobs that do not require a college degree.
And more companies are choosing skills and competency over college degrees when hiring. (ie. 50% of IBM’s job openings do not require a 4 year degree) So even if you have the RIGHT degree, someone who can “sell” themselves confidently may very well get hired over you.
Second, there is no such thing as job security anymore–no matter how hard you work. Companies are laying off, downsizing, and selling all the time. In fact some companies look down on someone who has stayed at the same job for really long periods of time. They think you might not be willing to grow and learn to help move the company forward.
Third, who wants to wait until they retire to enjoy life? The fact is, people who suffer and sacrifice their whole life, often end up sick shortly into retirement. And then they can’t do all the things they put off in life.
Sure, some people are willing to suck it up for 20 or 30 more years. But I’m guessing you want to have a rich full life and career NOW.
The problem is, that there’s no standardized “formula” for how to get this. In fact, most people don’t even think it is possible. But it is!
And to do it, you will have to step out of your comfort zone and chart your own path–the one that’s right for YOU! It means doing something different than you’ve always done. It means doing something different than your parents did.
And that can be scary. But it is so worth it. And it’s why I love helping people chart and follow their perfect career paths
It’s also why I love interviewing people like Matthew Brownstein on my podcast. I want you to KNOW it’s possible. That you don’t have to wait until you retire, or have a ton of money saved to step into a career you love.
Matthew Brownstein saw a clear and big path ahead of him after a spiritual awakening. But to follow this path he’d have to overcome his own self worth issues. He’d have to be brave and step out of his comfort zone over and over. Today he is and author, the CEO of Anahat Education Group, the Executive Director of the Institute of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy, and the President at International Association of Interpersonal Hypnotherapists

Could You Have ADHD with Adult Therapist Kate von Achen
Wednesday Jan 11, 2023
Wednesday Jan 11, 2023
Everywhere I turn, another person is diagnosed with ADHD. And they always say, “Everything makes so much sense now.”
They finally have a reason why they struggle with:
- Can’t deal with stress
- Impatience
- Impulsivity
- Easily bored
- Can’t sit still
- Negative self image
- Lack of motivation
- Sleep issues
- Procrastination
- carelessness and not enough attention to detail
- starting new tasks before finishing old ones
- Emotional reactions
- Disorganized
- Distracted
- Can’t focus
- Losing or misplacing things
- Forgetfulness
- Restlessness
- Talking too much
- Blurting out responses and interrupting others
- Mood swings
- Irritability
But what does the diagnosis actually give you? Does it teach you how to live your life better? Does the amphetamine prescription get rid of the problem?
NOPE.
Dr. Gabor Mate believes that ADHD is caused in infancy by a stressful environment. It can happen when the caregivers experience financial, political, or emotional stress. And a sensitive infant picks up on that stress. Because the child can not escape, they’ll “check out” or dissociate. It’s a coping mechanism to escape the stress.
Once this strategy is learned, it becomes the go-to strategy for dealing with stress and feeling uncomfortable.
But what if you could make your ADHD work for you instead of against you? What if you could change your brain? And create new, healthier coping mechanisms for stress?
Don’t you deserve that?
This is exactly what Adult Therapist and AD/HD "Hypeman," Kate von Achen, is determined to do–for herself and others.
Join us for a conversation on diagnosis, misdiagnosis, and making ADHD work for you.
Don’t be a person who lets a diagnosis determine the fate of your happiness. Some of the most successful and happy people have “diagnoses.” The key to a fulfilling career is to find the one that fits the WHOLE YOU.

Kate bio:
Kate von Achen is a clinical social worker working as an adult outpatient therapist in community mental health in Lawrence, Kansas. Kate’s journey into this line of work was anything but linear and makes perfect sense to those who have followed her at times chaotic journey. Overcoming (at times “self-created”) obstacles, running toward the flames while others run for safety, and being passionate about being of service to others has been the golden thread connecting the various hats worn internationally throughout her life. Finding out she is AD/HD at 42 and learning what that actually means has made her “at times chaotic journey” make perfect sense and has added tremendous value to her long “life experience list” she calls on in working in a community mental health setting.

Wednesday Jan 04, 2023

You did it! You worked your butt off to get to where you are. And people are impressed when you talk about your career.
You were taught to work hard. And it was supposed to be the key to a happy life.
Sure you’ve been bringing in a bunch of money. Yes you have “success.” But it’s been ALL striving and doing.

Deep down you know you want more. You want to do something meaningful. But who would you be without this career you put all your time and energy into?
You can’t just walk away from it all…
Or can you?
Christina did. She had an epiphany that she was wasting her life. And dropped everything to chase what she was called to do. No safety net, no real plan.
Taking the leap without a plan is definitely not for everyone. Get ready for a wild ride as Christina shares her journey from financing the American Dream to building the Love Shack.
- Walking away from it all is way easier when you’re prepared and have a great plan. It’s how you avoid accidentally jumping into the WRONG career again.

Rebuilding After Tragedy with Caitlin Doyle
Wednesday Dec 28, 2022

When employers don’t make room for your needs, it’s a sign that it’s time to go.
The thing is, most people are stretched to the max in career and life. There is no room to deal with BIG unforeseen circumstances.
But they happen. And when they do, most people will bust their butts to try to keep everything in balance–only to have it all crumble to the ground.
All because employers are unwilling to make space for them to navigate these life-changing curveballs.
It’s during these times that it is most important to be in a great job, otherwise you’ll be left standing on the edge of a deep, raging river with no way to cross.
If this happens, you’ll have to find a bridge.
And it’s often the road the bridge is dark and full of struggle.
Then… when you get there… the bridge is wobbly as F!
You’ve got to be willing to step anyway. And do whatever it takes to get to the other side. There is no choice.
One step at a time. Don’t look down. Keep moving forward. You can do it!
And finally, when you put your feet on stable ground, you might find yourself in a career you never imagined.
When Caitlin was fired while at her fiance’s funeral, she hustled to find her bridge to a new career and life. Where she ended up still surprises people!
Join us on Be the Wolf to find out where she ended up.

Breaking Free From a Cult to Create Your Best Life with Relationship Coach Amy Weitzman
Wednesday Dec 21, 2022
Wednesday Dec 21, 2022
Most people will follow and live by the set of expectations laid out for them (cult or no cult). Even when deep down they know it’s not right for them.
They will wait until life is beyond unbearable before they do anything about it. They’ll convince themselves things are okay enough so they don’t have to face the pain of dismantling their life.
But the reality is, you have to make a definitive choice to make things better, AND then you have to take action.
Tony Robbins says: People change when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.
Sometimes it’s one big moment that pushes you to make the choice and take action. Other times it is a tiny moment that breaks the camel’s back.
Leading up to this moment, your body gives you clues and warnings that something’s not right.
These warnings show up as insomnia, excessive emotional reactions, stress, headaches, physical pain, or something worse.
But most people ignore these warnings. And if it gets too bad, they take a pill. And keep going no matter what!
How bad does it have to get before you are willing to take action towards change?
Amy Weitzman is a relationship coach who grew up in a religious cult. When her breaking point came she had to leave everything to dismantle layers of shame and false beliefs. And now she gets to have a great career and live life on her terms.

Did you give up on a dream?
A lot of people never expected to have a soul sucking career. When they were young, they thought they’d have amazing and meaningful careers.
The problem is, getting from point A to point B wasn’t so easy. Especially if nobody was around you to show you how to get that dream.
So you went to college, thinking you’d find a way to do your dream once you finished.
But bills must be paid. So you got a job. And it sucked
And over the years your dream moved deeper and deeper into the closet.
You’ve gone from job to job. Each one as bad as the last. Sure you’re making more money. Sure you’ve gotten the promotions. But you’re not happy.
Every now and then, you think about that dream. What if?
Life is passing you by.
Are you really willing to spend another 30 years on this path? Overworked. Undervalued. And overlooked? At what point will you say enough is enough?
The thing is, you deserve to feel passionate about your career. You deserve to wake up excited to go to work–every day!
Maybe that old dream is the key. Or maybe it’s something different.
The question is…Are you willing to take a chance?
Erica Pflueger decided to take that chance. She kept putting her dream on the shelf. But there came a point where she had no choice but to step into her dream. The road hasn’t been easy, but she’s willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. Because when you’re doing what you’re meant to do, the obstacles don’t matter.

When You Doubt Yourself...Lean in with Erin Kunert International Education Professional
Wednesday Dec 07, 2022
Wednesday Dec 07, 2022
There’s nothing worse than working hard on something, thinking you did great, and then getting feedback that you suck.
Some people take this with grace.
But for most people it stirs up self-doubt and feelings of not being good enough.
And when it happens, some people fight back and get defensive. Others jump into action to prove themselves. And some shut down and give up.
Maybe it started with your parents. Did they tell you to work harder or be different than you are? Did they get on your case when you messed up? You tried your best to follow the rules but it seemed like nothing you ever did was good enough. It made you wonder if you could ever do it right?
When you got to college, you thought you’d be free. But those feelings didn’t go away. You doubted your choices. Should I drop this class? Is this the right major?
Then you got a job–didn’t love it. So you tried another one, and that one sucked too.
You did what you were supposed to… wasn’t that supposed to guarantee you a happy life?
You know it’s time to make a move. Something has to change. But those doubts rise back up…
Do I suck it up and stay? Go back to school? Start a business? Switch careers?
What’s the right choice?
Even the most happy and confident people have doubts, but what separates them from other people is their unwillingness to stay in a crap situation and suffer.
They know how to push through the doubts, make a choice, and take action–without second guessing themselves. They also know it’s important to make a plan and stick to it.
Life is always going to throw you curveballs, and sometimes it’s going to suck.
The question is, how long are you willing to stay in a crappy situation and suffer–hoping it will get better?
Erin Kunert was a rule follower who followed a typical path of college after high school. The curve balls started coming in grad school and she was forced to pivot. Time and time again she had to push through self-doubt to carve out the perfect career for her. And along the way she discovered she was more capable than she knew.

The Masks We Wear with Organizational Psychologist Kim Perkins
Wednesday Nov 30, 2022
Wednesday Nov 30, 2022
In every field there is a preconceived notion of how you are supposed to be. And most people will put on a mask to try to fit into those “ideals.”
This strategy may offer some benefits, but for many, the cost will be too high.
We are entering a new era where sacrificing your soul for work is no longer acceptable. People want to have it all! They want to enjoy their work, make a difference, AND be their authentic selves!
And sometimes to get to that place you have to walk the wrong path first. So you can truly understand why it doesn’t work for you. And from there you can step into creating the perfect career and life for YOU.

Does navigating your career feel like walking through a minefield? Nothing you do is ever right. It seems like your boss pushes your buttons on purpose. And no matter how hard you work, nobody ever appreciates what you do.
People are beginning to understand that trauma is at the root of why their life is not going the way they want. But before you stop reading, you have to know that trauma is not what most people think. You don’t have to have had an over the top horrible childhood to have “trauma responses” that will hold you back in your career.
You don’t have to look far to find a million quotes and memes about how certain behaviors are actually trauma responses.
- Perfectionism
- Having trouble standing up for yourself
- Saying yes all the time (even when you don’t want to)
- Feeling like you have do it all by yourself
- Staying super busy ALL the time
- Feeling reactive and triggered all the time.
- Always being the one to help
The fact is, many people who have these issues would never think they had trauma in their life.
But for many these issues take a toll in their careers and personal lives. They are burning out. Feeling on edge makes it impossible to get work done. They work hard and get taken advantage of. They procrastinate, fear failure, and don’t finish projects. And ultimately they don’t feel happy.
Check out this episode of Be the Wolf to learn what the actual definition of trauma is. And to hear Kathryn Wells’ story about creating success in her business through healing her trauma.

That’s what happened to Leigh Anne Jasheway when she accidentally became a comedian in her late 30s. She then ditched her job and moved across the country to create a non-traditional career with comedy at its core.

Nature vs Nurture with Kerri Sanford the Medicare Maven
Wednesday Oct 19, 2022
Wednesday Oct 19, 2022
Is it your genetics or is it how you were raised that determines who you end being? I think it is a combination of the two. And Kerri Sanford's experience supports my theory.
She was adopted at 6 weeks. And like many people who were adopted she never quite felt she fit in. But after meeting her biological family she is understanding why she is the way she is. And she is fully stepping into her true nature and who she was born to be.

What it Takes to Answer Your Calling with Doula and Childbirth Educator Tracy Hartley
Wednesday Oct 12, 2022
Wednesday Oct 12, 2022
Some people have known their calling since they were little. Others had to experience more of life before they knew. And still many are waiting to discover what theirs is.
But one thing is certain. When you find your true calling, you will get up again and again no matter how hard it is. There is no quitting.
When Tracy Hartley was 49 years old she heard the word “doula” for the first time, and within 24 hours she found a birth doula training, signed up and gave notice at a job she loved. It wasn’t always easy, in fact it was hard. But she had a calling…so she pushed through and has helped 697 babies enter this word.
Join us for a conversation on what it takes to answer your calling.

When you’re on a standard path to money and “success,” it’s not easy to honor what is true and right for you. Parental and societal expectations will override even the strongest wills. And most people continue down the standard path, even if they have to sacrifice their happiness. But the brave will do something different.
Lyssa Jaye went down the expected path that she thought would make everyone proud. But when the company she worked for became all about the $$$, she knew something would have to change.
Join us for a conversation on Lyssa’s path of growth, surprising pivots, and how she gets to create ripples in the world.

This sounds great! I would be honored to be considered. I went down the expected path, had a 6 year career that I thought would make everyone proud, making $ and on the 'way up' and once my company went public and was all about making profits for shareholders and ethics went out the window, I knew I needed to get out. I traveled alone in Asia x 1.5 years working and volunteering and came home to completely change my life. In the last year, I made a similarly huge transition in response to Covid and an inflexible employer and started my own practice. Let me know if this fits the bill of what you are looking for.

In my early 20s I thought if you kept hitting roadblocks that it meant it wasn’t meant to be. And I gave up on a lot of things.
It takes bravery to double down again and again. Especially with the voices of what you “should” do lurking behind every corner.
Cynthia Samanian is a Harvard Business School Graduate who walked away from a cushy tech salary to lean into her passion of food. And to turn her love into a viable business she had to double down and bet on herself (over and over).

Our society tells us that we are supposed to look, act, and be a certain way. But the reality is that a majority of us do not fit into those ideal molds. And half of the people that do, are faking it.
Stacy Sorgen has been a health and fitness professional for well over a decade, and she does not fit the mold. She had to carve her own path in one of the most judgmental industries there is. From Stacey:
I am an HAES-aligned American College of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer with 12+ years of training experience. I’ve taught mat-based Pilates, Spin, CoreMania, Silver Sneakers, Adaptive Strength Training, Yoga, Total Body Conditioning, Bootcamps, etc. I work with many organizations, and have taught onsite and online corporate classes at Google, Adobe, Davis Wright Tremaine, McKinstry, EXOS, Fremont Athletic Club, and more. I’ve coached runners for 15+ years and served as Head Coach for SoleMates for GOTRPS for 5 years.
I hold Yoga Teacher Certification RYT200 (2015), STOTT Pilates Mat-based practice training (2010), and a certification as a Holistic Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (2013). I completed the 9 month Body Trust Project: School for Unlearning in 2021 and the Promoting Body Trust in Your Work for Practitioners in 2022, both hosted by Be Nourished.
I’m dedicated to creating an environment for movement that is equitable, accessible, and diverse. Social justice is paramount and I strive to continue growing in my ability to be of service and support to groups traditionally excluded by the diet/wellness industrial complex. I recently completed a 3 workshop program with Dianne Bondy and Amber Karen’s with “Yoga For All” on the topics of implicit bias in movement spaces, using trauma-informed language to create affirming spaces, and adapting Yoga asana for all bodies. In July 2022 I successfully completed a 9 month Process-Oriented Facilitation (somatic interventions) program led by David Bedrick, JD, Dipl PW. Most recently I completed EXOS education’s course, “The Applied Neuroscience of Peak Performance”. I’m currently pursuing the GGS-1 Women’s Coaching Specialist Certification with additional study regarding movement and PCOS, strength training specific to Menopause, and pre/post-natal considerations for movement.
When it comes down to it, I’m really just a queer, anxious, fat cis woman who grew up in a suburb of Chicago. I now live in Seattle, WA with my incredibly patient and kind wife of 12 years (almost 13 years) and our 3 dogs; Oliver (Boxador), Pumpkin (Italian Greyhound/Chihuaua), and Emmie (Chihuahua). Would you believe me if I told you that my wife and I met on Craigslist? Lol. I looooove live music, random acts of kindness, paddle boarding on Lake Washington, and cozy nights watching some sort of trashy television. I love movement in many different forms and I do the work that I do because I’m passionate about it – and I love to use that passion for movement to support others. I love triathlons, a really good slice of pizza, saying hello to every dog I meet – ever, and reading trashy books on the beach.
